Almost every patient who sits down with me about liposuction has already spent weeks reading. They arrive with a lot of information and very little clarity about the one thing that actually decides the outcome: whether they are a good candidate.

That question takes about ten minutes to answer in person. It cannot be answered online, by me or by anyone else. But you can get most of the way there yourself, and this article is meant to help you do exactly that before you book anything.

Who This Actually Works For

Be honest with yourself on these. If you can say yes to most of them, a consultation is worth your time.

• Your weight has been stable for at least six months.
• You can pinch the area of concern and grab a distinct roll of soft tissue.
• The deposit has not budged despite consistent diet and exercise.
• When you release the pinch, your skin springs back rather than lingering.
• You want a changed silhouette, not a changed number on the scale.

That last one matters more than people expect. Liposuction is a contouring operation. Patients who measure success by the scale tend to feel disappointed even when the contour result is excellent, and I would rather tell you that now than after surgery.

Who It Does Not Work For

I turn patients away for these reasons regularly, and I would rather lose the booking than produce a result neither of us is happy with.

• Firm, hard abdominal fullness you cannot pinch. That fat sits behind the muscle wall. No cannula reaches it.
• Skin that stays creased when you let go. Removing fat under loose skin often makes the looseness more visible. You may want QuantumRF or BodyTite instead, or in addition.
• Active weight loss. If you are still losing, especially on a GLP-1 medication, we wait. That situation has its own plan, covered in our guide to post-GLP-1 body sculpting.

What the Day Actually Looks Like

Shorter than most people picture, and far less dramatic.

• You arrive, we mark the areas while you stand, and we take photographs.
• I numb the fat with tumescent fluid, then we wait for it to take full effect.
• I contour through incisions of roughly two to three millimeters while you stay awake and talking.
• You go home the same day in a compression garment.

And Recovery?

Most of my patients from Juno Beach, Jupiter, and Palm Beach Gardens are back at a desk within two to four days. Soreness resembles a hard workout. Compression runs two to four weeks. You will see real contour around six to eight weeks, and the final settled result over three to six months. Swelling is the reason patients who judge themselves at week three are always too harsh.

The One Question That Decides Everything

Ask any practice you are considering: which licensed physician will actually be holding the cannula?

In Palm Beach County this question separates practices faster than any other. At many medspas, the marking, the numbing, and the follow-up are handled by staff you have not met. That is legal in some configurations, but it is not what most patients assume they are paying for.
